About Kurukshetra

 

This district came into existence in 1973. Its adjacent districts are Ambala, Yamuna Nagar, Karnal, Kaithal and District Patiala of Punjab. There are ten Police Stations namely Sadar Thanesar, City Thanesar Ladwa, Babain, Shahabad, Jhansa, Ismailabad, Pehowa, Kurukshetra University & Traffic Samani and ten Police Posts. Pehowa and Kurukshetra are its two sub divisions.

            This District is famous for its historical as well as religious importance. Lord Krishna preached Arjuna ‘Geeta Updesh’. The great battle of Mahabharta was fought here between Kauravas and Pandawas.

 On Somwati Amawasya ‘Solar Eclipse Fair’ has its own significance. Lacs of world wide pilgrims have a holy dip in the Braham Sarover and Sannihit Tank.

            This District is also famous for religious places e.g. Jyotisar, Narkatari, Sathaneswer, Bhadarkali Mandir and Tomb of Shekh Chilli. Tourists enjoy glimpse of Mahabharta through Light and Sound programme in Jyotisar. Shri Krishna Saghralya is another center of attraction for the tourists. It was established in 1987 and further bifurcated in 1991& 95 in two buildings. Every year lacs of tourists come to see this Sanghralya. Kurukshetra Panorma and Science Center as well as Kalpana Chawla Tara Mandal are two scientific assets in this district. Kurukshetra University Kurukshetra, a famous study center is also in this district.

            The area of this District is well fertilized. Main crops of this district are paddy and wheat. Source of water for agriculture is tubewells. The people of this district are prosperous.

             No traditional crime is committed in this district and the crime is under control.
